Clinical Research Sites

Task Applied Science has three types of research sites:

Field sites at community TB Clinics, where TB suspects and TB patients are diagnosed and treated. Trial activities and follow-up are organized from within that community on an outpatient basis. Task's first such site was at Mfuleni CHC in 2007.

TB Hospital based sites where patients with special forms of TB attend outpatient clinics and can be hospitalized. An example is Brooklyn Chest Hospital, from where treatment of resistant TB in the Western Cape is coordinated. Task has a research site at Brooklyn Chest Hospital in Cape Town.

Dedicated research wards where patients are hospitalised for research purposes only. This is needed to provide a safe environment for the duration of a trial with a novel medication. Task is fortunate to be allowed on a ward in Karl Bremer Hospital, Bellville, Cape Town, for this purpose.
